first and foremost, i would like to wish my wonderful, amazing mother, a very happy birthday today. she deserves it.
that being said, such a wonderful mother deserves a spectacular birthday card. i think i’ve outdone myself this year!! this card is a 100% original design and 100% hand crafted (no die cuts utilized). when coming up with the idea for this card, i knew i had wanted to have a cake on the front, but i couldn’t find one that i liked in my (her) cricut cartridge collection, so i decided to create my own.
it was actually, a really simple process, and i’m willing to bet that just about anyone can do it! when designing the cake, i made it easier on myself by creating lopsided layers, and the imperfection made it that much more adorable. and if you watch some of those fancy cake shows on tv, topsy turvy cakes are kinda popular these days. so i drew my cake out on a piece of cardstock, cut it apart, traced each layer onto patterned paper, cut those out, and then pieced it back together. i did a little inking around the edges of each layer and bedazzled it with some pearls and jewels, and i love how it came out!! the rest of the card was very simple, two pieces of patterned paper, some letter stickers, and ribbon, that way the cake takes center stage. and after all, isn’t this the best kind of cake? one that is gorgeous, hand-made, and doesn’t pack on the pounds!!!
enjoy! and try it yourself, you might find it’s easier than you think!
